I too am a native English speaker and now live in Spain (on the Costa Blanca) and am just starting to learn Spanish.

My Singaporean wife is way ahead of me with her Spanish, she seems to pick languages very quickly – I am much slower, but very determined to get there!

I think it would be both fun and helpful to have a pen pal (non family member)

Mi esposa es de Singapur por delante de mí con su español, que parece recoger idiomas muy rápidamente - Yo soy mucho más lento, pero muy decidido a llegar hasta allí!

Creo que sería divertido y útil tener un amigo por correspondencia (no miembro de la familia)
